Arts at the Market: Watercolor Painting

Arts at the Market: Watercolor Painting Winter Veggies!

A Nourish Kids club activity. A hands on craft demonstration with a local Appalachian Artist. This morning, we will be learning watercolor painting with Melanie.

Melanie Ford Fetterolf, born 1970, is an award winning Artist who enjoys creating in a variety of mediums. She works in watercolor, acrylic, and most recently clay and 3-D metal mesh. Melanie began to focus on her art while studying at Virginia Tech, where she played competitive tennis and graduated with a BA in Fine Arts with a Painting Concentration in 1993.

After college Melanie married Eric and moved to Hilton Head Island, SC where she actively exhibited with the Hilton Head Art League and taught tennis. Her family moved to Seymour, TN is 2001 to raise her three children, Laura, Andrew, and Michael. Melanie opened Painting Your World Studio in January of 2016 as her creative space, and to fill a need in the community. She enjoys teaching all ages private lessons, and hosting group classes and painting parties.

Melanie is a juried selling artist in the Appalachian Arts and Crafts Center in Norris, TN. She also actively shows her work in the Knoxville, TN area and is known for her vibrant use of color in abstract Rain Paintings, traditional landscape, and animal images. She currently sells pottery, mesh sculptures, note cards, book marks, magnets, and prints of her originals in area retail locations, local farmers markets, and Arts and Crafts events. Her originals are in private collections throughout the southeast. Original artwork can be viewed and purchased through Painting Your World Studio.

“All of nature is an inspiration to me. The earth, the sky, landscapes, animals and their beautiful colors inspire me to create. I consider myself a colorist. I love to play with color and explore its intensity and range. I pull hidden colors from within an image and bring them to the viewers attention. The border between realism and abstraction fascinates me, whether it be in form or color. I’m a very creative thinker, and frequently give myself design challenges within my work in any medium. I focus on the creative process and all it includes within any medium I am working in. Creating art is one of my greatest joys in life! It brings peace to my soul to create. I simply have no choice but to grow as an Artist and continue to expand my toolbox of talents.”

- Melanie Fetterolf

Arts at the Market

Arts at the Market: Handcrafting Ceramic Veggies

A Nourish Kids club activity. A hands on craft demonstration with a local Appalachian Artist. This morning, Ashley will lead us through making ceramic veggies that will be kiln fired and available for pickup at the February 24th market.

When Ashley was just a kindergartener, she fell in love with clay after seeing the handmade pinch pots created by the 5th graders. Ashley eagerly waited until she became a 5th grader in order to get her hands officially in the mud. From then, Ashley knew that working with clay would somehow be her calling and has been pursuing clay ever since.

Studying arts and clay throughout secondary school, Ashley continued her studies and earned a B.F.A. with a concentration in Ceramics at East Tennessee State University in 2012.

Now located near the Great Smoky Mountain in East Tennessee, Ashley focuses on creating handcrafted tableware and décor adding charm and uniqueness to every home, office, cabin or restaurant!
